Never Choose Work

I wrote the below words in a Facebook post dated February 9, 2017, after about three months of traveling the US in a motorhome. It is one of my favorite posts and it still rings true today. Below is a photo of my beloved Funseeker Class C Motorhome.

After several conversations this week (well, months really) with people, a recurring theme keeps entering my head. An idea that took me awhile to accept, my grandest advice after 90+ days on the road is:

NEVER CHOOSE WORK.

Don’t choose work over family, over your pets, over an adventure, over meeting a friend for a drink, over self-meditation time, over leaving the office for lunch, over (insert your own reason as to why you have chosen work).

Work is work. It will ALWAYS be there. There will always be work to be done. There will always be deadlines, angry clients, dissatisfied bosses, piles of paperwork. One is never caught up.

Give work it’s fair time for the day and then CHOOSE LIFE! Do YOU! Go for a run, grab coffee with your mom, play with your dog, call a distant relative, write a thank you note, meet up with friends to try a new restaurant, watch TV, go buy a tent and use it, attend a concert, hold hands with your partner, or (my favorite) have a glass of wine and read a magazine!

I know it sounds cliche. I like those adventure quotes and memes, and never fully applied them until we acted on a small idea that turned my life upside down. And then right side up. We spoke to that little flame that is passionate about travel and a little devilish about conforming. I just advise you to seek it, too, and I’m sure it’s not more work you truly desire 😉

The cursor just blinks on this one. I don't even know where to start because I possess so many qualities with one heck of a story. But stacked up against the world of bloggers, writers, and artists, I feel small and ordinary with nothing unique to say. But I am determined to give this site breath so my history will just have to be told among the pages.
